2014-09-28: Oktoberfest II: Bier Hierder

Did you know that Oktoberfest actually begins in late September? We are sticklers for authenticity, as the photo below attests, so will not feel compromised at all when don our 'Clinking Pints' hats and show up to Bomber Brewing (1488 Adanac Street) on Sunday, September 28 to entertain the beery masses from 2-6PM. You can get advance tickets here, which guarantee you 2 beers, a commemorative stein, and food!

We may even revisit our classic rendition of Father Abraham's traditional Oktoberfest tune, Smurfing Beer. You can learn the words for the sing along portion by watching the video below. Putting it on repeat works best!

Get the full rundown, and follow the HTML breadcrumbs to purchase your tickets here: http://www.beermebc.com/2014/09/03/bomber-brewing-hosts-east-vancouver-oktoberfest-celebrations/.

2012-09-27: Oktoberfest at the Railway with The End Tree, The Creaking Planks, and Fang!

It's that special time of the year when our Kishka Anthem makes sense! (from a sausage point of view at least).

The Planks will be celebrating Oktoberfest in not quite Oktober at the Railway Club this coming Thursday, September 27 with chamber squawk trio The End Tree, and well-heeled accordion rock weirdos Fang.

The Railway Club (579 Dunsmuir St., Vancouver)
$8 - 8:30pm

2011-10-15: Oktoberfest in Oktober!

It's been a while since our last visit to Malone's Urban Drinkery, but though we were celebrating a slightly different holiday, you've got to admit it was about the same time of year. This time, we'll be the ones dressing up -- in leiderhosen! -- for an Oktoberfest that won't soon be forgotten. The Vancouver chapter of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) takes beer very seriously, and as it so happens that's the critical element of this particular occasion! Fortunately, Malone's are rising to meet them with a festive menu including pretzels, schnitzel, sauerkraut, bratwurst and potato pancakes!

Hopefully things will be tipsy and gemütlichkeit enough for our set to make a little sense through the cheery beery haze, mashing up Planks standards with Oktoberfest beer-hall anthems, and when the yodeling contest starts up, that's when you'll really know you're in the right place.

The whole event (events I should say, pairing Oktoberfest with Harvestfest) runs from noon to six pm, an ale-fancier's dream for a $25 admission (advance ticket purchase!)

Update: The Daughters of Beer felt The excellent beer paired well with the Planks “jugband of the damned” covers of Major Tom and Love Cats and we're inclined to agree!
